4 Reasons for Stomach Bloating and Belly Fat by Medical Weight Loss in Philadelphia
In or Philadelphia Medical Weight Loss Center people come to us for all different reasons. Most people who come to us need help with losing weight while others may want to lose weight but they also want to improve their overall health and wellness. One of the main complaints that we usually hear from almost everyone is that their stomach is always bloated and / or they just cannot get rid of their belly fat. There are many different reasons why a person may be bloated or not able to get rid of their belly fat and today I am going to discuss a few of them.
Reason Number 1:
One of the most common reasons for having difficult to lose belly fat is that there is too much insulin in the body. When your insulin level is high your body is in fat storage mode. Most of the calories that you are eating during this time or going to be stored as body fat. You start developing abdominal fat also known as visceral fat. This can also lead to your liver getting fatty and can eventually cause fat to develop around other organs and into our stomachs and causing distended belly. This can also cause a sagging stomach as well. And of course let’s not forget the love handles and back fat. Eating too much high-sugar fruits, starchy carbohydrates, candies and beverages containing sugar can all increase your insulin level and cause you to gain fat.
Reason Number 2:
High cortisol levels can also increase your belly fat. cortisol is produced by your adrenal glands and is considered to be a stress hormone. When you are physically and mentally over stressed your body produces more cortisol and cortisol in turn increase insulin production. And we know that high levels of insulin increases stomach fat. Cortisol turns protein into glucose which causes a spike in insulin production. Because cortisol increases your blood sugar and your insulin you eventually develop a insulin resistance and your body cannot properly control blood sugar; now you can possibly develop Diabetes. So your body is now producing high levels of insulin but it’s not effective in lower blood sugar levels.
Reason Number 3:
Another reason for stomach bloating is that you are consuming too many sugar alcohols such as erythritol. Sugar alcohol can cause stomach bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. Personally, I cannot consume large amounts of erythritol. When I was first diagnosed with diabetes I was trying to restrict my sugars and starchy carbohydrates. For my birthday, my wonderful wife made me a sugar-free, low carb cheesecake and she used erythritol. When I took my first bite it was absolutely delicious and suffice to say it was my birthday so I indulged a bit too much and I paid the price later.
My stomach was a mess, nothing but pain and gas. I learned this lesson the hard way. If you are maintaining a restricted carbohydrate diet, you have to be careful of overconsumption sugar alcohols. There are other sugar substitutes that you can use. I now use monk fruit and monk fruit extract. If you do use sugar alcohols please use small quantities.
Reason Number 4:
Finally you may just be overeating or eating too many times during the day. When you eat it takes about 4 – 5 hours for the food that you are eating to be processed and go through your stomach. It takes about 5-6 hours for the food to go through your small intestine and then it can take anywhere from 10 hours to 30 hours to go through your large intestine depending on what you ate.
So when you are eating something every hour you could be overloading your system. You have to give your body time to digest all of the food that you were eating. And when you are eating take your time you don’t want to shovel everything and anything into your body as fast as you can. Be mindful of the foods you are eating and the quantity of food that you are eating.

If you are new to our weight management program I invite you to call and schedule a consultation with our weight loss team. Call 215-821-7336 and schedule your consultation now.
Here are the great recipes:…
Brownies – Paleo Style
- Ingredients For the Brownie Batter:coconut flour – 1 cup
- cocoa powder – 1 cup
- Total solutions 4 protein powder – 2 scoops chocolate
- butter – 1 cup
- sugar free maple syrup – 1.5 cups
- mashed sweet potato – 1 cup
- sugar free almond milk – 1 teaspoon
- For the frosting you can use any sugar free chocolate frosting.
DIrections:
Take a 8 x 8 inch pan and line it with parchment paper. Mix the protein powder, cocoa powder and mashed sweet potato in a large bowl. Make sure that it’s smooth and not lumpy. In another bowl stir in the syrup and butter. You might have to microve them a bit so it mixes nicely. Combine the ingredients of both bowls and stir until it’s combined nicely. Now just pour the mixture into the pan and refrigerate. Allow it to become firm then add the frosting over top. Set it back in the refrigerator to set a bit more… Then enjoy!.
Cookies and Cream Protein Bars
I have to tell you that this is a fantastic recipe and it’s especially good after a good workout. And these protein bars are going to be gluten-free, dairy free, sugar free and vegan.
- Ingredients:
- coconut flour – 1 cup
- almond flour – 1/2 cup
- total solutions 4 vanilla protein powder – 1/2 cup
- Stevia or any other type of sweetener – 2 tablespoons
- vegan – gluten-free – dairy free – sugar-free chocolate sandwich cookies – 2 – 3
- any type of not butter – 1/2 cup
- sugar-free maple syrup – 1/2 cup
- any type of dairy free milk such as sugar-free almond milk – 1 tablespoon
Let’s start by taking a lower baking dish grease it and then line it with parchment paper and then grease the parchment paper and set this bowl on the side. Then take the granulated sweetener, protein powder, sugar free chocolate cookies that we have broken into large chunks or larger crumbs in the flour until a large microwavable safe bowl and mix itre. In another microwave safe bowl add the liquid sweetener and butter until it’s totally melted. Then pour your mixture into the dry mixture and stir it until everything mixes nicely together. It should be a bowl of large crumbs. Next add your milk preferably a couple tablespoons at a time while stirring it will form a nice thick batter. Now all that we have to do is take this mixture and pour it into your baking dish and press it down. Then just refrigerate this for at least 30 minutes.
Chocolate Ice Cream
- Ingredients:
- banana – 2 – 3 bananas
- any type of not butter such as cashew or almond butter – 1 – 2 tablespoons
- cocoa powder – 2 tablespoons
First cut your bananas into slices and place these into the freezer and give them time enough to freeze. Your bananas have to be frozen before you begin making this recipe. Now and your frozen bananas into a blender and blend them for about 8 test 10 seconds and then pour in the almond butter and cocoa powder. After that I usually like to polls the blender so that everything blends together nicely. Then just pour into a bowl and enjoy.

From a Size 18 Divorcee to a Sexy Curvy Size 12/14 Newlywed
Congratulations to Susan who dropped from a size 18 to a curvaceous size 12/14. First let me say that Susan gave us permission to tell her story and she actually insisted we tell her story in hopes of helping people in her same situation.
In our medical weight loss program people come to us to help them lose weight for so many different reasons. Some people may have to lose weight because of health reasons while others are looking to lose weight for some type of family or school reunion and then some are just looking to lose weight to fit into a bathing suit before their vacation.
And for some losing weight can be a triumphant personal victory and such is the case with Susan. You see Susan was a happily married 57-year-old woman with 3 children. But as it turns out Susan’s husband was not quite as happy as she was and he left her for a much younger woman.
Financially Susan was left secure by her husband because he was a very successful businessman but emotionally she was totally devastated. It took quite a bit of time for Susan’s friends to finally convince her to start dating, to get her life back.
And being good friends they set her up on lots of blind dates but sadly there was never a 2nd date. Finally Susan had enough and she decided it was time to do something about her situation.
She decided to find love again.
Susan’s first visit with us was not easy. She gave us every reason why the program was not going to work for her. She also told us that she was never a skinny girl. She was never a size 4, she was never a size 6. But just like we tell all of our patients not everyone is meant to be a size 2, not everyone is meant to be a size 4 or even a size 10. You just have to be happy with yourself and be the best possible you that you could be. I explained to Susan that in our program we take into consideration your body type. And we try to help you appreciate the body that God gave you.
If you are a curvy lady be thankful for the curves that God gave you and if you are a skinny lady be thankful for the body that God gave you. Our program is all about appreciating yourself.
While we do help people that must lose lots of weight we also help ladies (and men) that just need to lose a tummy fat, thigh fat and maybe some arm fat and then just tone everything up with walking and maybe even some resistance training just using rubber bands that they sell in the stores that are inexpensive. So again our program is designed to help you be the best you. Our goal is to help you appreciate who you are and what you are. And as it turns out Susan also found a gentleman who definitely appreciated her curves.
In her first visit with us we explained to Susan that the appetite suppressant medications work extremely well at controlling your appetite and we even showed her little tricks to do if she did happen to be hungry especially late at night. Well Susan put her best effort into the program and now she is enjoying her honeymoon.
Here are a few of Susan’s favorite recipes from our weight loss program.

Doctor Loses Over 30 lbs With Medical Weight Loss Philadelphia
In our medical weight loss program most of our patients lose 2 – 5 pounds per week. They lose all this weight by eating delicious tasty food. And on our weight-loss program you eat real food that you would normally buy at the supermarket. You do not have to spend hundreds of dollars on pre-packaged meals like many other weight-loss programs.
In fact using our own medical weight loss program I have lost quite a bit of weight myself. You see I suffered a significant back injury a while back from a car accident. And these injuries caused me to suffer pain all day long and severely limited my physical activity.
Suffice to say I just got fatter and fatter.
Finally after being diagnosed with Diabetes, I realized that I had to make lots of changes and get myself together. So in the beginning of this year, 2015, I made the promise to myself and my wife that I would follow our medical weight loss program exactly as I teach all of our wonderful patients.
And I am happy to say that I have lost quite a bit of weight following our medical weight loss program. It makes me even happier to fit into clothing that has been in the back of my closet for years.
Because of my Diabetes I decided to follow a program that really controlled the sugar in my diet. This is the same program that I give all of our Diabetic patients to do.
Not only did I lose weight, but now at 3 months into the program my blood sugar levels are normal.
I definitely appreciated all of the recipes and menus that we provide our weight loss patients because they made my losing weight easy – I just had to follow the plan – and the food and recipes we give our weight loss patients are delicious. So losing weight was simple, delicious and easy. All I had to do was follow the plan.
The Phentermine works really well at controlling hunger and cravings so it’s easy to follow the plan when you are never really hungry.
One thing I did make sure was that my first meal of the day consisted of delicious protein. This pushed my body into fat burning mode and not fat storing mode.
It’s funny that in our weight loss program we make you eat to lose weight… While other weight loss programs have you starve yourself to lose weight.
So here are 8 yummy recipes that I enjoyed on my weight loss journey. I have them labeled as breakfast but you can eat them anytime of the day for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
These recipes are taken from the book The 100: Count Only Sugar Calories Diet Book by Jorge Cruise. It’s a great book and has lots of low sugar recipes. I definitely recommend you read it.

Lose 2-5 lbs a Week Eating Cake by Philadelphia Medical Weight Loss Diet Doctors
Yes it is possible to lose 2 – 5 pounds a week in our medical weight loss program while eating delicious cakes and other goodies like I have pictured here in this article.
In our medical weight loss program we believe we give you the best appetite suppressant medications and weight loss pills that will help decrease your appetite and get your hunger and cravings under control.
Lots of our patients tell us that they were never hungry and that losing weight on our program was the simplest and easiest weight loss program that they have ever done.
They also have told us that our weight loss program was not only simple and easy but it was the most fun because we gave them lots of recipes for delicious foods like a chocolate bomb weight loss shake, sugar-free blueberry ice cream, fat burning lemonade, espresso and ricotta cheese desserts and a multitude of of recipes for entrées, appetizers, desserts and even snacks.
One of my favorite recipes is for cheesecake that is sugar-free. And because yesterday was my birthday my wife made me my favorite sugar-free blueberry cheesecake. If you are already one of our patients you know that a few months ago I was diagnosed as having type II diabetes and that I have been trying to follow a sugar-free diet as much as humanly possible. And this sugar-free blueberry cheesecake recipe fits right into my new sugar-free diet plan because it has no extra sugar in it.
(If you are presently not one of our patients you can read all about my personal story about being diagnosed with diabetes in an another article that I have on this website titled “Confessions of a medical weight loss Dr.”)
And even though I am a weight loss doctor I actually ate quite a few slices of this delicious cheesecake yesterday and when I weighed myself this morning I actually weighed a half pound less.
So I know you can’t wait to try this recipe for yourself so here it is:
Sugar Free Blueberry Cheesecake*:
Ingredients:
- 8 oz. of cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup of sour cream
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 tablespoon of stevia
- ¾ cup of xylitol
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- frozen blueberries (if desired)
Directions:
Beat the cream cheese until smooth. Mix in the sour cream, eggs, stevia, xylitol and vanilla. If you want a crust: Wrap foil around the bottom of a 10 inch spring form pan. Butter the bottom of the spring form pan and sprinkle ground walnuts or pecans on top. Pour the cream cheese mixture on top. Place the cheesecake in an oven safe dish that is larger than 10 inches. Pour hot water in outer dish so it reaches half way up around cheesecake. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 – 60 minutes until center is nearly set.
After removing it from the oven you can open the bag of blueberries and place them over top of the cheesecake. You can use blueberries or any other berry of your choice.
Then cool for 15 minutes. Scrape the sides of pan with a knife and release spring. Cool 30 minutes. Remove spring and refrigerate for approximately 4 hours. You can also make it in small ramekin dishes with no crust for individual servings. Make sure to reduce the baking time if you reduce the size of your pan.
*This recipe was taken from one of my my mentors Dr. Daniel Pompa from his website.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do. And from the picture that you see posted above you can see that I really did enjoy this cake LOL. But it was my birthday so I was allowed to cheat a little bit more than usual.

Chocolate Chip Strawberry Muffins*
This recipe makes 9 muffins. These muffins are very similar to the big products you can find in many high end coffee shops. They are deliciously chocolate , moist and studded with jewel like berries. You can also add 2 tbsp of good quality cocoa powder to the batter to create a double chocolate treat. Dark chocolate is actually very good for you because it contains antioxidants and is heart friendly.
Ingredients:
We will need coconut oil for greasing the muffin tin.
2 cups of almond flour
1/2 cup of mini dark chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
a pinch of sea salt
3 large eggs
1 quarter cup of maple syrup or honey
2 tablespoons of coconut oil melted
1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
1 cup of fresh strawberries trimmed and sliced
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Then lightly grease 9 muffin cups with coconut oil. Line the bottom of the cups with parchment paper and grease the parchment. In a large bowl stir together the almond flour, chocolate chips, baking soda and salt. In a small bowl whisk together the eggs, maple syrup, coconut oil, lemon juice and vanilla until well blended. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir to combine. Fold the strawberries and spoon the batter into the prepared muffin cups. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of one of the muffin comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let it cool on the rack for about 5 minutes in the muffin tin then turn out onto the rack let it cool and serve.
Chocolate Raspberry Donuts*
Ingredients:
Coconut oil for greasing the donut pans.
2 cups of find almond meal
1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa counter
2 teaspoons of coconut flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
a pinch of sea salt
4 large eggs
1/4 quarter cup of honey
1/4 cup of coconut oil
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
1 cup of fresh raspberries
1/3 cup of dark chocolate chips.
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a donut pan with coconut oil. In a large bowl stir together the almond meal, cocoa, coconut flour, baking soda and salt until well combined. Then in a medium bowl whisk together the eggs, honey, coconut oil and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir to mix well. Carefully fold in the raspberries and chocolate chips. Spoon the batter into the donut pan and tap lightly on the counter to remove air bubbles. Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes until firm. Let it cool before serving.
Banana Vanilla Pancakes*
Vanilla and banana go together splendidly in this recipe and using a vanilla bean creates very rich flavor. Vanilla beans contain some B complex vitamins and traces of many minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron and zinc. This means that the vanilla can help regulate the body’s metabolism and normalize heart rate and blood pressure.
Ingredients are as follows:
3 large eggs
2 large ripe bananas seeds from one vanilla bean
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
3 tablespoons of coconut flour
1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
a pinch of sea salt
coconut oil for greasing the skillet and fresh fruit for topping. Directions:
Place the eggs, bananas, vanilla seeds and vanilla extract in a food processor and pulse until very smooth. Then add the coconut flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt and pulse until smooth. Let this sit for about 10 minutes so the coconut flour can absorb the liquid.
Pulse again a few times. Place a large skillet over medium heat and brush with a bit of coconut oil.
When the skillet is hot add about one quarter cup of the batter and cook until bubbles appear on the top this should take about approximately 3 minutes.
Flip the pancake and cook until browned on the second side and cooked through. Repeat this process until all the batter is used. You can serve just topped with fresh fruit.

Recipes to Burn Fat and Look Great by Medical Weight Loss Philadelphia
Hello everyone Dr. Kenny here, if you are one of our medical weight loss patients you know that my mantra is “Losing Weight Should be Simple, Easy, Delicious and Fun. So with that being said here are a few more weight loss recipes that are definitely delicious and should help you achieve your weight loss goals of losing 2 – 5 pounds per week.
In my recent post of recipes on our website I have been giving you lots of weight loss recipes for weight loss smoothies and shakes in addition to regular appetizers, entrées, desserts and even snacks. The reason I have been posting so many smoothie recipes is because the majority of our patients are asking for quick and easy weight loss smoothie recipes because they do not have enough time for a regular breakfast first thing in the morning.
It just seems that everyone is always in a rush nowadays and there is never enough time to take care of yourself.
Most of the men I know are literally working 24/7 and most of the females that I know are also working 24/7 in addition to taking care of their children, getting them ready for school in the morning and then they head out to work or to take care of whatever responsibilities they have to attend to for the day.
So to me it seems that females have an even more difficult time taking care of themselves as compared to men. Now if you are man please do not be upset with me for saying this. I am a man, so this gives me the privilege to make such an observation. Honestly though, this is how it is in my house.
I do try to help with household chores and with the children but the majority of my time is spent in the office taking care of our wonderful patients. While my wife is taking care of the children, getting our youngest off to school in the morning and giving him a good healthy breakfast (because we know that young minds need good healthy food to fuel both their bodies and their brains to do well in school); in addition to this she also takes care of our three dogs and her parents. Not only does she do all of this but she also manages our offices and actually answers the phone and schedules the majority of appointments in our office. So when you call the office and if Elyse answers the phone you now know that she is my wife.
My wife is an amazing woman and she gave up her career in Pharmacy in order to stay at home and raise our three children and help us build our wonderful practice. So with all of this being said I know that women have a multitude of responsibilities and are not always capable of spending the time to take care of themselves. And that is why our weight loss program is designed to be simple, easy, delicious and fun and does not require you to exercise a multitude of hours each and every week.
Sorry! Sometimes I have a tendency to run on a bit LOL. But I am just very appreciative for the woman in my life and all the other woman in the world who are usually the backbone of their family and as such society.
Now! Here are the delicious weight loss recipes.
This is going to be a smoothie that is designed primarily for burning fat.
Nut-berry Fat Burning Weight Loss Smoothie
- 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries.
- 1 small apple, remove the core.
- 1 hand full of kale.
- 4 – 6 ounces of unsweetened almond milk, hazelnut milk or any other type of nondairy milk.
- 1 tablespoon of flax seeds.
- 1 – 2 packets of Stevia.
- If you are not using frozen blueberries you may want to add 1/2 – 1 cup of ice to make it nice and frosty and refreshing.
Now we just combine all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until it’s nice and smooth.
The Burn Fat and Look Great Smoothie:
- 2 handfuls of kale.
- 2 cups of cooled brewed green tea or any other type of tea.
- The juice of 1 lemon.
- 1/2 avocado that is peeled and pitted.
- ½ of pink grapefruit that is peeled and seeded.
- 1/4 cup of pitted dates –
- Or instead of the dates you could use 1 scoop of our Solutions4 protein powder that is totally sugar-free and packs the right amount of protein to get your body fat burning.
- 1 tablespoon of flax seeds.
- 4 – 6 ounces of unsweetened almond milk, hazelnut milk or any other type of nondairy milk.
Combine all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until it is nice and smooth. This recipe is taken from the book “The 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse” That is written by Jennifer Smith , However I did modify the recipe by adding flax seeds and substituting our protein powder in place of the pitted dates.
I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as I do.
