8 Totally Delicious Holiday Recipes for Healthy Weight Loss
Happy Holidays to you all! It’s cold outside and this is the time of year that I usually like to start eating and enjoying comfort food. Apple pie with hot cocoa! Just the thought of it makes me hungry. But I really don’t want to gain back any of the 80 lbs that I have lost. You see, I have the same struggle as you do. I like food, I am Diabetic and I am a stress eater. So, even though I am a Philadelphia weight loss doctor, I still have the same appetite and cravings that you do.
When I was first diagnosed with diabetes I had a difficult time following a diet plan that would help me lose weight. And more importantly, help with my diabetes. I just could not do it on my own. The weight loss pills, Phentermine was the only thing that helped control my appetite and cravings. Taking the Phentermine, along with a sensible diet plan and walking for my exercise plan helped me lose 80 lbs! And I have kept it off. I actually maintain this weight loss without continuing to take the diet pills. Appetite-suppressant medications help control your appetite and cravings but you still need to follow a proper meal plan. For me personally, the Phentermine just made the whole process much easier and doable.
Now I am able to maintain a proper diet and keep the weight off without taking Phentermine. So if you are like me, you shouldn’t have to take the weight loss medications forever. Now let’s get back to the comfort foods! Lucky for me, my wife Elyse, has been busy in the kitchen making new weight loss friendly recipes for some of my favorite foods and I’m going to share them with you today.
Here are 8 of her recipes…

Yummy Sweet Treat Strawberry Sorbet
- Frozen strawberries – 4 ounces
- The juice of one large lemon

- celery salt – 1 teaspoon
- pepper – 1 teaspoon
- onion salt – 1 teaspoon
- sea salt – 1 tbsp
This is a really great recipe and it’s so easy to make. Just combine all of the ingredients into a large pot. My Mother would have a pot specifically designated as her soup pot. Cook this until the chicken is done. When we make this recipe we usually cook it for about 40 minutes or a little bit less. Just make sure that your chicken is totally cooked because you do not want to eat uncooked chicken. when it’s finished cooking just take out for chicken and you can save that for some of your other meals. And just refrigerate or freeze the broth to be used later.
French onion soup
- onion – 1 vidalia onion
- garlic powder – one teaspoon
- beef broth – one cup of
- onion salt – one teaspoon
- pepper – one teaspoon
Take your onion and cut it into wedges. You can do this by using an apple slicer. Place the onion in a baking pan, place a piece of foil underneath it. and then season it with your garlic powder, onion salt, and pepper. Add about one-quarter cup of the beef broth and then wrap it in the foil. place the onion and the baking pan in the oven and bake it for about 60 Minutes at 350° Fahrenheit. When it is done place it into a soup bowl and add the rest of the beef broth. I usually like to enjoy this with a few slices of Melba toast.
Onion soup – green onion soup
- parsley – one teaspoon
- green onions – eleven
- dill – one half teaspoon
- paprika – one half teaspoon
- thyme – one half teaspoon
- parsley – one teaspoon
- salt – one half teaspoon
- vegetable broth – two cups
- liquid stevia – three to five drops

Let’s start this delicious recipe by steaming the green onions and then chop them up and place them in a saucepan. Add some of the vegetable broth and the sauteed onions for about 3 minutes. Next add the red pepper flakes, celery seed, dill, thyme, paprika, parsley, salt, and liquid stevia and saute for about 3 minutes. Next, add the rest of the broth, reduce the heat and let simmer for approximately 35 minutes. When it is finished let it cool down a bit and enjoy.

In today’s article I am going to give you a few recipes that are loaded with awesome nutrition, will help satisfy your appetite and cravings and assist you in achieving your weight loss goals.
I am also going to discuss a topic – question that many new patients coming into our office are asking me about. And this question is about the Keto Diet or ketogenic diet. It seems that many new patients coming into the office have already started some type of ketogenic diet on their own and are suffering from diarrhea. And they have no idea why this is happening.
So, in this article after I give you the recipes for the smoothies, I will review why some people may initially experience diarrhea on a ketogenic diet, when they try doing on their own. The smoothie recipes will be for three of my favorite smoothies and they are the Keto Banana Avocado Fat Bomb Smoothie, Keto Blackberry Hemp Fat Bomb Smoothie and my Keto Blueberry Cavern Smoothie recipe.
Here are the recipes:
Keto Banana Avocado Fat Bomb Smoothie

- 1/2 small avocado

- Combine everything into your blender, blend and enjoy!
So, there you have it, 3 of my favorite recipes for smoothies that will help satisfy your appetite and cravings, provide you with excellent nutrition and help satisfy your sweet tooth.
Now I am going to get into a somewhat sensitive topic and that is why do some people suffer from diarrhea when they first start the ketogenic diet. In my experience one of the main causes of diarrhea on the ketosis diet is that people are eating too many saturated fats.
The ketogenic diet does focus on eating good healthy fats, but your body has to adapt this way of eating overtime. Eating foods that contain good healthy fats such as salmon, avocados and olive oil are excellent when you are following the ketogenic diet, but they are also quite good for you even if you are not following a ketogenic diet. Eating these types of natural foods that are normally part of our everyday diet is usually not the problem. Eating these natural foods should normally be part of everyone’s diet plan. They promote better overall health, wellness and will help you lose weight.
But when people begin the ketogenic diet in addition to eating these regular healthy foods like salmon and avocados, they supplement with additional fats like coconut oil, MCT oil and frill oil. And sometimes all of this additional fat is too much for the body to handle. You see when you eat fatty foods your body produces more bile.
This is a normal healthy function that goes on in our body every day over lives. When we eat any type of fatty food are gallbladder automatically produces more bile and that helps the process of digesting our food. However, when people start supplementing with extra fats the body may produce extra bile that serves as a lubricant for our intestines and colon and this can cause diarrhea.
So, one of the easiest ways to help with diarrhea when starting a ketogenic diet is to decrease the amount of saturated fats that you are eating. Simply try to reduce a few of the extra oils that you have added your diet such as frill oil, coconut oil, MCT oil and any other extra oils that you may be consuming. And try not to add any extra fat to your diet; for example – try not to add extra butter to your meals just to add some additional fat.
Another thing that I have found with new patients coming into the office is that they have added bulletproof coffee to their normal daily routine. And since doing this they have been having diarrhea almost immediately after finishing their cup of bulletproof coffee. And this exemplifies my point that consuming too many fats can be causing your diarrhea. Stick with the normal fats that are in your everyday normal diet and you should be fine.

Easy Weight Loss Tips:
The first tip and most important one is that you have to decide that you are going to make changes in your life in order for you to lose weight and also improve your health and wellness. Many people talk about losing weight or wanting to lose weight and they think about it constantly, but they never get started. Once you make the decision that you are going to make an effort to lose weight pick a date and start your program. If you need help deciding which type of weight loss program is best for you that’s why we’re here. Just call us and schedule your complementary consultation. Just call 215-821-7336 and our receptionist would be glad to schedule you.
The second tip is that you need dedication. You need to be dedicated and committed to following the proper type of diet plan and if, you are able, some type of physical exercise routine. Dedication and consistency are two things that are necessary to help you lose weight. You have to be dedicated and committed to follow your eating plan and make sure that you are eating the proper types of food that are conducive to you losing weight.
Next, you have to follow a good meal plan. Wanting to lose weight is a great idea but unless you change your eating habits your weight will remain the same. You have to eat the proper amounts of protein, vegetables fruit and carbohydrates. Many people are under the impression that if they just do a high protein low carbohydrate diet they will lose a ton of weight. But I can tell you that this is not always the case. If you are following a low carbohydrate diet you still have to eat the proper amounts of proteins vegetables and carbohydrates. And we review all of this with our patients during their consultations.
Physical activity/exercise is also important. The type of exercise that you do depends upon your level of physical fitness, cardiac health overall health wellness and ability. Most of our weight loss patients start out by simply walking.
Walking is a great because it does not require you to purchase a gym membership. You can walk outside, if it isn’t bitter cold winter time or you can walk on the treadmill. In addition to walking I really like bike riding for weight loss exercise. One of the great things about stationary bikes is that they do not take up a lot of space in the house and you could place it in front of the TV at night and get your exercise done while you are watching your favorite television shows.
There are certain fat burning zones that are determined by your heart rate and we review this with our weight loss patients when we consult them. The beginning phase of the exercise is usually low intensity cardio to focus on losing pounds and inches and then when we get close to our weight loss goal we usually can start some type of exercise to tone the body. Trying to burn fat and build muscle at the same time becomes more difficult as we get older. This is simply because our hormone levels decrease as we get older.
So, there you have it, great recipes and some basic fundamental weight loss tips! I hope you enjoy them. If you need help losing weight and would like to consult with our Philadelphia weight loss doctors just call us and schedule your complementary consultation at 215-821-7336.
How To Kill Your Appetite by Medical Weight Loss Philadelphia
Turbo charge your weight loss with these hunger killing recipes. If you pay attention to social media you’ve probably seen so many of today’s celebrities following a low-carb diet and losing lots of weight fast. You also hear them using the term fat bomb. And in today’s post I’m going to tell you why eating these fat bombs are helping celebrities lose weight and keep it off; and I will give you some really quick and easy recipes for fat bombs (just like the celebrities are eating).
Now, fat bombs are basically little tiny bites of food that are mostly made up of good healthy fats like coconut oil, cream cheese and avocado. The reason they work is because they activate a small section in the small intestine that releases hormones that decrease or stop your appetite. Yes, you read that correctly. When you eat good healthy fats and they pass through this section in the small intestine, the intestine releases hormones that will help to decrease or stop your desire to eat (for as long as 3 hours for most people). When you combine these fat bombs with our weight loss pills and our sensible eating plans you have an awesome combination to help you achieve your weight loss goals. But I must ask you please not to add these fat bombs into your diet haphazardly. Please discuss adding these to your nutritional plan when you see me on your next visit.
Here are the recipes:
Lemon & Cheesecake Fat Bombs
coconut oil – 1/4 cup
unsalted butter 1/4 cup
cream cheese – 4 oz
fresh lemon juice – 2 tablespoons
Stevia – to taste
Place all of the above ingredients into a bowl and blend them well together. Next, just pour them into a candy mold and allow them to freeze until they are firm. This recipe usually makes 10 pieces.
Coconutty Fat Bombs
coconut butter – 1/2 cup
coconut oil 1/2 cup
shredded unsweetened coconut – 1/2 cup
Stevia – to taste
Place your coconut butter and coconut oil in a pot over a low flame and stir until it’s nice and smooth and then stir in the shredded coconut and stevia. mix everything until it’s combined together. then, just pour it into a candy mold and let it freeze until it’s firm. Next you can melt approximately 3 oz of dark chocolate and just pour it over top of your firm coconut cups and set it back in the freezer. This recipe usually makes approximately 10 pieces.
Pizzaz Bombs

Pitted olives – 6 diced olives
Sun dried tomatoes – 4 of them that are oil packed – diced

I love mug cakes because they are easy to make and all you have to do is mix the ingredients in a large coffee mug then just cook them in the microwave for about 30 seconds to possibly 1 minute and you have an awesome nourishing meal.
So I’m going to give you two recipes for mug cakes that are low in carbohydrates, low in sugar and gluten free. The other recipe is going to be for brussel sprouts delight. And now here are those great recipes I told you about it.
BRUSSELL SPROUTS DELIGHT*

But please do not make them too soft. I think it’s best to eat these while they are warm.
