Today I’m going to give you three great smoothie recipes. They happen to be three of my favorite recipes. Usually my smoothie recipes contain lots of vegetables but today these recipes just taste really good and are more leaning towards a lower carbohydrate – higher fat diet such as a ketosis diet plan. The recipes are for a Chocolate Banana and Peanut Butter Smoothie, a Chocolate Coconut Smoothie and a Coconut Berry Smoothie.

The recipes I’m giving you are for approximately 1 serving. Depending on how thick you like your smoothies you can add anywhere from ½ cup – 1 cup of milk to the recipes. I like my smoothies to be a bit thicker so for me ½ cup of any milk beverage is usually fine.
Chocolate Banana and Peanut Butter Smoothie
- Peanut butter – 1 tablespoon
- Cocoa powder – 2 tablespoons
- Banana – 1 frozen
- Coconut milk or any other milk of your choice – 1/2 cup
- Blend and enjoy! You can add more or less milk depending on how thick you like your smoothies.
Chocolate Coconut Smoothie
- Fruit – 1 small fruit of your choice
- Coconut milk / Unsweetened almond milk – ½ or 1 cup
- Chia seeds – 1 tablespoon
- Cocoa powder – 2 tablespoons
- Combine in your blender, blend and enjoy!
Coconut Berry Smoothie XXVI
- blueberries – 1/4 cup
- water – 1/4 cup
- coconut milk or any other milk beverage – 1/2 cup
- vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
- liquid stevia – 10 drops, more or less depending on your own personal taste
- ice cubes – 5, again you can add more or less ice cubes.
- Place everything in a blender, blend and enjoy!

Weight Loss and Diabetes by Philadelphia Weight Loss Doctor
In today’s post I’m going to give you if you several really great smoothie recipes to help you along your weight loss journey and I am going to review help losing weight can reduce the risk of developing overweight related diseases such as diabetes.
Whether we like it or not we have to face the fact that the bigger our waistline becomes the greater our chances of developing certain diseases like diabetes.
And of course, the opposite of this is also true. If we lose weight or do our best to maintain a proper body weight we significantly reduce the chances of developing diabetes. Usually when a person is diagnosed with diabetes type II, the first recommendations the physician recommends is for the person to lose weight. Studies have shown that small amounts of weight loss can greatly reduce the chances of a person developing diabetes.
And in our office, we see people starting with us that have diabetes and as they work with us their HbA1c levels decrease over time.
If you are under the age of 65 just by losing 7% of your body weight you reduce your risk of developing diabetes by as much as 60%. And if you are over the age of 65 you can reduce the risk of developing diabetes by 70% or more.
These numbers are significant because reports estimate that as many as 20 million people in this country have diabetes and that approximately 90% of these people are overweight. In the past, most people thought that diabetes was just a disease that you develop as you get older.
But now reports indicate that at least 37% of people 20 years old or older are prediabetic. This goes hand-in-hand with reports that tell us that more and more of the youth of this country are overweight and/or obese. So, you can see that diabetes does not really care how old you are.
Please be aware that no matter your age is extremely important to maintain a proper body weight to help prevent diseases like diabetes. And if you have been diagnosed with diabetes type II losing weight is so very important to help improve your health. Even the smallest amounts of weight loss have great impact. If you have been told that you are prediabetic just losing 2 pounds of your weight can reduce your chances of developing true diabetes by as much as 11%.

- Peeled cucumber – 1
- pear, cored and seeded – 1

European Congress on Obesity Links Being Overweight to 12 Types of Cancer by Medical Weight Loss in Philadelphia
In today’s post I am reviewing a report presented at the European Congress on Obesity in Vienna that linked being overweight/obese to 12 different types of cancer, which cancers are linked to obesity and another report that linked bariatric surgery to a 61% decrease in one of the most common types of cancer in New Zealand.

The World Cancer Research Fund has identified 12 different types of cancer that can be attributed to being overweight/obese. On Thursday they released their “Continuous Update Project “: Diet, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Cancer: A Global Perspective.
This report was given at the European Congress on Obesity in Vienna. The report showed how being overweight/obese can be attributed to the development of multiple types of cancer.
These cancers include:
- Liver cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Advanced prostate cancer
- Stomach cancer
- Mouth and throat cancer
- Bowel cancer
- Postmenopausal breast cancer
- Gallbladder cancer
- Kidney cancer
- Esophagus cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Cancer of the womb
There are many reasons why being overweight/obese can be linked to cancer. Fat can cause a multitude of hormonal cancers such as endometrial cancer and breast cancer. Extra body weight can also cause a long-term state of inflammation and this can cause a spike in insulin which can cause various cancers to develop. Being overweight can also cause a person not to be physically active and this has also been shown to be linked to cancer development.
Other research that was presented at the European Congress on obesity revealed that undergoing bariatric surgery was related to 61% decrease in developing malignant melanoma which is one of the most common types of cancer in New Zealand. These reports present us with a strong link to being overweight/obese and developing some type of cancer.

- Milk of your choice – 1 cup

Chocolate Coconut Delight Smoothie

- Spinach fresh or frozen – 2 big handfuls
- Coconut oil – 1/2 TBSP
- Psyllium husk powder – 1 tablespoon
- Spirulina powder – 1 Teaspoon
- Stevia to taste.
- Water – 1 cup or more depending on how liquid you like your smoothies.
- Optional: Peanut Butter – 1 Teaspoon
- Combine in a blender and enjoy!

The reason why I love smoothies so much is that they allow you to consume a large amount of vegetables in order to give your body the nutrition that it needs to sustain health and also allow you to lose weight and maintain your weight loss once it has been achieved.
Reviewing current literature, it is recommended to consume 8 servings of vegetables a day. Eating 8 servings of vegetables per day can be a bit much for some people so putting everything into a blender and making smoothies is one of the easiest ways to make sure that you are getting these 8 servings of vegetables per day.
I do recommend that you start out slowly when you first start making your smoothies and then over the course of time you can add more and more vegetables.
